In-Person Lesson Policy
Last revised May 20 2025
1. Purpose #
This policy sets clear expectations so that teacher, student, and family can focus on steady musical growth. For an overview of my instructional approach, please read my Teaching Philosophy.
2. Enrollment & Commitment #
New students commit to a minimum of three consecutive months of weekly study.
Why? Many beginners experience a dip in motivation after the initial “honeymoon” period; three months gives them time to see real progress before deciding whether to continue.
3. Scheduling & Payment #
Step | What Parents Do | What the Studio Does |
---|---|---|
1. Reserve lessons | Tell me how many lessons your child will attend in the coming month (typically 3–5, depending on holidays). | Confirm the dates/times within 24 hours. |
2. Pay in advance | Submit payment for the reserved lessons by the first lesson of the month. | Hold the selected slots on the calendar. |
3. Lesson day | Arrive on time with music and assignment notebook. | Provide a focused, individualized lesson of the booked length. |
4. Cancellations & Make‑Ups #
- 24‑hour notice (or more): one make‑up credit that must be used within 30 days.
- Same‑day cancellations or no‑shows are charged in full unless due to a genuine emergency (illness, family crisis, dangerous weather, etc.).
- If I must cancel, I will offer a make‑up time or credit your next invoice.
5. Recitals & Performance #
- Studio recitals are held every 2–3 months. Dates are announced at least six weeks ahead.
- Participation is strongly encouraged; performing builds confidence and celebrates progress.
- Students are encouraged to have their recital pieces fully memorized; in my experience, if a piece isn’t memorized, it usually isn’t ready to share with an audience.
6. Communication #
- Email or text is best for scheduling matters; please include the student’s name and lesson date in the subject/first line.
- I respond within one business day.
7. Practice & Materials #
- Students are expected to practice regularly (age‑appropriate daily goal agreed upon in lessons) and bring all required books to each lesson.
- Any new materials will be recommended in advance; parents may purchase or reimburse the studio.
8. Studio Etiquette #
- Please arrive no more than 5 minutes before the lesson and pick up promptly afterward; waiting space is limited.
- Food, gum, and siblings’ toys stay outside the studio area to protect the piano and create a focused environment.
Agreement #
Enrolling in lessons indicates that you have read and agree to the policies above. Thank you for partnering with me to help your child flourish at the piano!
